About me
My name is Bettina Haupt. I originally come from Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and have been living with my Uruguayan partner, Pablo, in Estación Atlántida, Uruguay, for 15 years.
During this same period, I have successfully operated a garden center here. Besides ornamental garden plants, fruit, and vegetable cultivation, I also specialize in medicinal and aromatic plants.
Many Europeans visit my garden center, alongside Uruguayans. They often have questions about migration and are initially relieved to be able to speak German with me.
Through personal consultations in my garner center concerning my plant knowledge, it has become clear over time that many Europeans settling in Uruguay still have unanswered questions about migration procedures, driver’s license transfers, banking matters, buying or renting a house, health insurance, and doctor visits, or similar processes. This is understandable; who would know about the procedures, culture, or infrastructure, and much more, in a foreign country when they have just arrived?
Special support is often needed with language skills. Many immigrants are not yet proficient in Rio de la Plata Spanish or familiar with Uruguayan procedures. That’s where I come in.
